Introduction to Band

The first 8 weeks of 4th grade band at NCS is known as the introduction phase. Every student in 4th grade will get a chance to learn the 4 "core" instruments of a wind ensemble (band): Trumpet, Clarinet, Flute, and Trombone. Both classes (Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Patterson) will spend two full weeks exploring each instrument. This innovative program allows each child a chance to understand, apprecieate, and ultimatley, choose an instrument. It also allows the teachers to asses which instruments individual students have the most natural apptitude for. At the end of the 8 weeks each parent will be given a chart listing how their student faired at each instrument. This data, plus the interest of the child, will be used to determine which instrument to "adopt" for the rest of the year. Or the rest of a lifetime.



Permanent instrument choices will be made by October 28. This is when we will have the instrument rental meeting and
ULTIMATE WORLD PREMIER CONCERT OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to 4th Grade Band

4th grade has arrived and that means BAND! It's a whole new way to learn about the world and it's marvelous Creator! The joy I see each day as these kids make all kinds of noises on those new instruments must make His heart glad. We, parents and teachers must work together to keep that joy alive today, through the year, and hopefully for their whole lives! You, the parent, will be the biggest part of this process. Sitting and listening to them honk through Hot Cross Buns and making them feel like they just did the greatest thing in the history of the world is one more way to say "I love you" and to send them up a path that could literally lead them anywhere. In some ways the next few months may be trying on your ears and nerves (if your child becomes a particularly zealous practicer) - but like hard excersize it will pay off! The most important thing is: let them know that you love it! constantly! Someday, they'll be playing and you'll suddenly realize "wait, that actually sounds good..." trust me, it's true.

ULTIMATE WORLD PREMIER CONCERT OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!

Parents, students, loved ones and dignitaries are cordially invited to experience the ULTIMATE WORLD PREMIER CONCERT OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!! on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the Surfside Cafe at Northside Christian School. This meeting should last about an hour and a half and will feature three disctinct parts:

• Instrument rental meeting: Bringe music store will present all of the options available for renting or purchasing new and used quality instruments. During this time families will be able to aquire and instrument. You will be sent all neccesary information prior to this meeting.


• P.M.C. (Parent Music Conservatory): Parents will be instructed on all matters pertaining to band. This will include: instrument assembly and care, curriculum, resources, SMART MUSIC practice software, and creative ways to use your childs new skills from recording to composing!


• ULTIMATE WORLD PREMIER CONCERT OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!! While you are being educated in P.M.C., the students will be busy preparing to dazzle you on their new instruments. At the end of the meeting we will gather and they will perform an actual song (with a real melody) for you, your relatives, the President of the United States, and maybe even the Head of School! This promises to be a great time that you will remember forever.
